Wiesel, Elie

Born in Sighet, Romania, in 1928, deportation to Auschwitz in 1944, forced labor in the Buna/Monowitz concentration camp, death march in January 1945, liberation in Buchenwald in April 1945, went to France and worked as journalist and writer, moved to New York in 1955, survival account La Nuit (Night) published in 1958, university professor, active in commemoration of the Holocaust and enforcement of human rights, Nobel Peace Prize in 1986, now lives in Connecticut.
